In addition to its export trading business, ACE has built a backgrounding business across several northern floodplain properties. ‘The Long Yard’ offers a countercyclical market opportunity to stockpile cattle during the high supply dry season, and to have cattle available to sell during low supply wet season.
Backgrounding gives the cattle a chance to acclimatise to different grazing conditions prior to entry into a feedlot or intensive finishing system in quarantine and in-market. This practice delivers significant production benefits once the cattle are on feed including improved socialisation and improved feed intake and reduced health issues.
Each of these benefits result in increased weight gain, condition, and productivity, providing a considerable marketing advantage with a reliable supply of export-ready cattle all year round.
ACE’s capacity to diversify from the traditional export of feeder cattle to one market, has allowed the business to embrace new markets, adapt to individual customer requirements and secure trade deals through this innovative backgrounding operation.
Our adaptability, reliability, and diversified market reach sets us apart from other exporters and we now proudly export the widest variety of bovine livestock to overseas markets of any Australian exporter.
